Snowbird and Alta Mountain Info


Snowbird is the most accessible world-renowned four season mountain resort in North America, only 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport. If traveling by freeway, it takes approximately 40-45 minutes to reach Snowbird Resort, nestled in the Wasatch Ranges Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Beginners/First Timers will find the Baby Thunder Lift takes you to a few great choices, including Easy Street and Bluebell, where you can tuck yourself away in the trees and take your time.

Intermediate levels
will quickly discover the Gad-Zoom High Speed Quad, which leaves you at the beginning of Bassackwards, a nice long run which leads onto Lower Bassackwards, and finally Lowest Bassackwards, where you end up right back at the high speed quad. And for something different, but just as long, the Aerial Tram to Chips Run wont disappoint.

Advanced/Experts
cant go wrong with the Aerial Tram. Dumping you at a whopping 11,000 feet (3,353 m), you can try Primrose Path or Great Scott, both lots of fun. And dont forget Snowbirds new Peruvian Tunnel, granting you access to lots of fantastic black diamond runs like Book Ends Traverse on Toad Hill, and High Stakes straight down from the Mineral Basin Express Lift.

Dean Cummings Big Mountain Camps: With a commitment to the highest level of skiing, 16 years of experience guiding in the Chugach, the owner and president of H2O Guides, the premier heli-ski company, skiing truly is his life. Cited in Powder Magazines 35th anniversary issue as one of the worlds 48 most influential people of the past 35 years, Deans career and talents, include a successful career on the US Ski Team, winner " 1995 World Extreme Skiing Championships and 36 feature length films including thousands of first descents around the world. The Big Mountain Camps, hosted by Dean, outline the skills and knowledge necessary to safely access the backcountry and wild terrain unique to the Alps, Alaska, and many top US resorts, including Snowbird. Dean has dedicated his life to skiing and his impact on it changes the way people look at the sport. Dean has and always will give 100% on the descent while putting people in the moment.

Dean will share his knowledge, experience and ability while guiding you as a team into the best terrain and powder available. Combining lift, backcountry, and heli access in Utahs Wasatch Range, this four-day/ four-night camp is sure to get you ready. Hosted at the Cliff Lodge with spa access. Experts ages 16 and up.



Terrain Parks

Snowbird's terrain park and Superpipe offers everything you can dream of. Advanced park riders can challenge themselves in the Baby Thunder Terrain Park, where a series of hits, kickers, tabletops, spines, jumps, and rails of every shape and size are found on nearly every train in the area. The intermediate TerrainPark, located on Big Emma near snowbird's Superpipe, is a great park for riders to continue to improve their skills with a series of intermediate rails and hits. 

The in-ground Superpipe is 329 feet long, 60 feet wide, and has 18.5 foot walls, providing a world-class pipe experience to complement the legendary Mountain. It is located on the Big Emma run in GadValley.



Mountain Tours

Take a free orientation tour of Snowbird with their friendly Mountain Hosts and get to know the mountain as well as they do. Length of tours are 1 1/2 " 2 1/2 hours. Meet on the Snowbird Centre Plaza Deck at the orange Mountain Tour sign.



On Mountain Dining

The restaurants at the hotels are so close to the mountain we have included some of these in our list below.

The Aerie Restaurant 
is located on the tenth floor of The Cliff Lodge, where you can enjoy spectacular mountain scenery seen through 15-foot windows. The Aerie is open daily in the winter for breakfast and dinner, serving progressive New American cuisine, using the finest local ingredients enhanced by advanced culinary techniques.

Mid-Gad Restaurant is conveniently located on the mountain, just off the Mid-Gad chairlift and features chili, soups, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and more. Mid-Gad is a great place to stop for a hearty lunch or a quick snack.The Mid-Gad Espresso Bar serves giant rice krispy treats and famous alpine brownies. Can't go wrong!

The Lodge Bistro serves American Bistro with a tiny hint of French cuisine, and people have been returning for years for the Bistros famous steamed Maine Mussels and Coconut Shrimp. It is located on the Pool Level of the Lodge at Snowbird, which is only a short walk from all of Snowbirds lodges. This intimate restaurant features great mountain views as well as beautiful patio dining.

The Steak Pit is Snowbirds oldest restaurant and a long-standing tradition. This award-winning restaurant is tucked away on Level One of the Snowbird Centre. If you look closely you might see the local porcupines or a moose hiding between the pine trees.

El Chanate Restaurant, located on Level A of the Cliff Lodge, is Snowbirds newest Restaurant and Lounge. Bring the kids and unwind with their exclusive house made margaritas. El Chanate offers an authentic Mexican menu with traditional dishes and a wide range of spice levels.

Pier 49 Sourdough Pizza is the place for the pizza lover! For a quick snack, lunch or dinner, by the slice or whole, tasting is believing in this gourmet sourdough pizza. You will find them in the Snowbird Centre, Level 2.

The Birdfeeder on Level 3 of The Snowbird Centre, is open daily in the winter and on busy weekends in the summer. Stop by the Birdfeeders take away window for a quick snack and a beverage. A great place for gourmet coffee, espresso drinks, freshly baked pastries, sandwiches and soft drinks.

Creekside Caf© and Grill is Snowbirds newest eatery, and is conveniently located at the base of Gad Valley. The Caf© is your source for fresh baked goods in the morning, hot and cold sandwiches at lunch and specialty coffee drinks all day. You will also find an outdoor grill on the 3,000-square-foot deck.

The Atrium can be found on Level B of the Cliff Lodge, where they provide a perfect mountain atmosphere. Relax and enjoy the breathtaking views with a hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning or a heart-warming meal at the buffet.

The Wildflower Restaurant is where sun-drenched flavors of Italy infuse the food and complement the mood at this casual-romantic restaurant. Discover a warm friendly atmosphere, great food and an eclectic wine list, located on Level 3 of the Iron Blosam Lodge.

The Forklift is a Snowbird family dining favorite. It's perfect for a hearty breakfast or relaxing lunch, and is located on Level 3 of The Snowbird Centre.  This is really popular and makes great burgers!

The Rendezvous Restaurant is the place to meet your family and friends for a hearty lunch. Its central location on Level 2 of The Snowbird Centre, and open seating make it an ideal spot for skiers and non-skiers to converge for the mid-day meal.

General Gritts, located on Level 1 of The Snowbird Centre, is a combination deli, grocery, and liquor store with an ample selection. The take-out deli counter has a wide selection of made-to-order sandwiches. There is also a Utah State Liquor and wine store in the front of the store featuring a wide selection of wine and spirits.

Baked and Brewed features espresso, pastries, bagels, confectionery, ice cream and many other treats and snacks. Located on Level 2 of The Snowbird Centre.

Superior Snacks, The Cliff Lodge snack bar, is located by the swimming pool and hot tub complex. Serving soup, sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, nachos, smoothies, soft drinks, draft beer and assorted snacks.
