Big Sky Village Info

"Over the Winter months access to Yellowstone National Park is limited with alot of the entrances closed to motorised vechiles. However you can still enjoy the sights of Old Faithful, wondering Buffalo and hot geysers by taking a snowcoach.Or if you are wanting to be at one with the elements you can enjoy one of the many guided snowmobile tours on offer."

On The Mountain

Beginners will find the gentle and wide trails located on the lower mountain areas perfect to get going. Andesite Mountain is where the majority of beginner green trails are found. The long winding Pacifier trail, located on the right hand side of the Ramcharger Chairlift, is perfect for practicing big linking turns. For a little extra speed try the shorter but slightly steeper Safari trail.

While intermediates would probably not want to attempt the ride down from the Lone Peak Tram; the mid mountain areas of Big Sky offer great skiing and snowboarding options. Long tree lined trails of varying steepness lead down from the top of the Swift Chairlift on Lone Mountain, Lobo and Calamity Jane are both fast and challenging.

For a gentle introduction to tree skiing and snowboarding try the trees under the Iron Horse Chairlift, the terrain isnt too steep and the trees are well placed to get some good turns in.

Opened since 1995 the Lone Peak Tram transports skiers and snowboarders up a vertical rise of 9,180 feet to some of the steepest and most challenging double black terrain in the US. In great snow conditions its similar to heli-skiing and snowboarding. The tram accesses steep open treeless powder fields and tight narrow chutes.

On fresh powder days the queue can be really long for the tram, for those who just cant wait to make fresh tracks head right from the top of the Gondola to the Challenger Chairlift. This services the steep and open Big Rock Tongue terrain as well as the renowned mogul covered Midnight, Moonlight and Highway trails.

For excellent tree skiing and snowboarding go to the trees under the Shedhorn Chairlift on Lone Mountain or the heavily treed War Dance and Mine Shaft terrain on Andesite Mountain.
