The Village
The Village of Lake Louise is on the Trans-Canada Highway fifty-seven kilometres (thirty-five miles) west of Banff. This quiet and small village offers a range of travel amenities, fabulous dining opportunities and accommodations.
Attractions and Activities
First Tracks is a fantastic option of getting to ski/board with an instructor and get first tracks for the day. This allows you to get on the slopes half an hour before the lifts are open to the public and gives you 2 hours instruction as well.
(Reservations are required in advance through Ski School).Recommended after a storm day!!!
The Sitz 'n' Suds Apres Ski Party & Dinner begins with appetizers,a full buffet dinner, and interactive live entertainment. The fun starts right after skiing and runs through until 8:00 PM with bus service back to your Lake Louise and Banff Hotels. This event is held once a week on Fridays from mid December to the end of March.
Powder Express Day Trip To Kickinghorse Mountain
Book your transport and day lift ticket through Ski Traveller to Kickinghorse Mountain and experince the steep and deep of British Columbia.
Heli skiing trips to Panorama, horse drawn sleigh rides, cross country skiing, skating, guided snow shoe tours, snowmobiling, ice hockey games in Calgary or pampering at the Aveda Spa are just a few more activities to keep everyone amused.
Shopping
There is a small selection of shops at Samson Mall although more shops can be found at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
For more selection of shops a day trip to Banff is a great alternative with a variety of shops including several gift shops that highlight the work of aboriginal artists and artisans, an integral part of Banff's Rocky Mountain heritage. Similarly, the many art galleries in the area celebrate the mountain artwork of local and Canadian artists.
Dining
Lake Louise Station is a restored railway station which also offers the option of dining for dinner in a historic dining car. Couples might like a table in the Killarney car, which was the private railroad car of a Canadian Railroad president. The menu is extensive including salmon, lamb, pastas and steaks.
Recommended dining options to consider are:The Post Hotel serving continental cuisine, Deer Lodge,The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Edelweiss, fine dining,Walliser Stube Wine Bar a Swiss influence specialising in raclette and fondue. The Poppy Room,a family restaurant, and the 24-hour deli.
Great value for money is
Bill Peyto's Cafe at the International Hostel. This was one of my favourites and not what I expected to find at a Hostel it is popular amongst locals and provides a relaxed atmosphere with an emphasis on wholesome healthy food.
Nightlife
Nightlife is pretty quiet at Lake Louise -The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise has The Glacier Saloon which can get quite lively with dancing. More options are The Explorer's Lounge in the Lake Louise Inn and The Post Hotel's Outpost.
