Canmore
|
"...when i lived here it was a much smaller mountain community full of mountaineers and heliski guides.Today Canmore has developed into a bustling town on the outskirts of the Banff National Park Gates. With a lack of condominiums in Banff, Canmore offers wonderfully spacious condominiums with fabulous mountain views. These are excellent value for money and a great alternative to Banff."

Resort
Canmore is just 15 minutes away from Banff and a real mountain community as where ever you look there are 360 degree views of stunning mountains everywhere.
Originally an old coal mining town and host to the Olympic Nordic (Cross Country and Biathlon) events in 1988 this was probably the first real exposure to the then small community of 3200 residents.
Today the population has grown to 16,000 and is now a thriving town with trendy mountain cafes, resturants, bars, fashionable interior design stores, ski shops and a large supermarket.
Staying here is great for those wanting to explore the Canadian Rockies and appreciate a real authentic mountain community.
Currently there is no ski shuttle service to the slopes of Mt Norquay,Sunshine or Lake Louise but a quick 15 minute drive will have you in Banff where you can choose to jump on buses to gain access to the ski resorts.Or a 40 minute drive and you will be in beauitful Kananaskis Country and home to Nakiska which was host to the 1988 downhill Olympic events.
