EPIC OPENING DAY RIDING AT MAMMOTH NOVEMBER 2008!!

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Greetings from the Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth.Dump Alert!!!!Mammoth Mountain has been open for One week now and conditions are awesome! We are off to a great start and the base is building fast. We received over a foot of new snow on Saturday night. The Powder Gods were good to us and the Great White Wave is alive again!  We are enjoying Top to bottom riding with more lifts to open by next weekend. The runs serviced by the Top Gondola are filled in nicely. The snowmaking crews are pumping snow at a high output with the colder than usual temperatures we have been experiencing insuring a solid base for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.

This is one of the best early seasons I can remember. My favorite runs off the Top this weekend were Dave’s Run, Drop Out Chutes, Scotty’s Bowl and the Paranoid Chutes. The trees in the Chair 12 area have been great. The chair is not running yet so there is powder everywhere and worth the short hike to access. The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth continues to be rated in the Top 5 of the104 total Westins in the USA

The new winter menu in the Whitebark restaurant promises to excite the senses, make our guests very happy and fulfilled.  We will be featuring a new Après ski in the Lounge this winter with drink and food specials from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.  The ever popular Westin nightly ritual or “refresh” will be back too.

Mammoth Mountain will be hosting the Night of Lights on December 20.  This spectacular night of fireworks, torch light skiers, music, entertainment, food, holiday spirits and surprises will get you in the mood for the upcoming Holiday season.  With all the early season snow there has never been a better time to visit Mammoth and stay at the Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth.  We are counting on you to do your snow dances and think snow.  Let’s make the 08/09 season one to remember.  Be well, keep smiling and book a trip to Mammoth soon, you won’t regret it.

SKI TRAVELLER IN JAPAN

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

On the 9th December 2008 join me on my adventures around Hakuba,Shiga Kogen,Nozawa Onsen,Furano,Tomamu,Niseko and Rutsutu Ski Resorts. For most of my life i have grown up in ski resorts in North America and to be honest i thought it couldn’t get better than what i have experinced so far. However earlier this year we were lucky enough to be the New Zealand Travel Agent sponsor for the Warren Miller movies and it was here on the Playground Movie that i saw a glimpse of what Japan has to offer. It was not only this but the large number of enquires from friends, clients and fellow staff asking “what is skiing/boarding in Japan like compared to North American Resorts. All will be revealed on my trip around Japan watch for my updates on our blog in December 2008!!!
