Tuesday, November 30th, 2010Winter Park now open
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010Breckenridge 20″ * Keystone 8″ * Vail 13″ all in 24 hours
Wednesday, November 17th, 2010As if you weren’t fired up enough for the season, Breckenridge had 20 inches in the past 24 hours to get you itching for some mountain action. The T-Bar lift on Peak 8 opened 17 Nov and skiers and riders will be able to access North Bowl out to Forget-Me-Not as well as Contest and Horseshoe Bowls. Open terrain includes Duke’s, with access back to the Colorado SuperChair. Northstar and the Rocky Mountain SuperChair open 19 Nov. Nearly 600 acres and chair 6 will be up and running by Saturday 20 Nov.
Keystone are gearing up to open more terrain with eight inches of snowfall in the past 24 hours! The North Peak and Outback open Friday giving Keystone 604 acres with more terrain opening next week. It’s the earliest opening in Keystone history for the Outback, accessible via the Outpost Gondola. Current resort stats boast a 31″ base with more than two feet of snow falling in the last week, and with a Winter Storm Warning until Wednesday morning skiers and riders should look for more terrain openings as the week progresses.
Operations crews at Vail Mountain expanded their opening day plans to seven lifts and 550 acres of terrain. Both Lionshead and Vail Village bases open this Friday 19 Nov and with nearly a foot of new snow over the weekend at mid-mountain and snowmaking conditions prime for lower elevations.
Foot deep in snow at Steamboat
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010It has been a white weekend in Steamboat, as Mother Nature paid a much anticipated visit to Ski Town, U.S.A. with 14.5 inches of snow falling at Thunderhead, the resort’s mid-mountain location at 9,080 feet, in the past 72-hours (Oct 25). Mother Nature showed just how fast she can go from fall to full winter and reminded all of us that it’s never too early to make sure your equipment is waxed up, season passes are in hand and you’re getting into shape for a fantastic season.
Meteorologists are calling for a La Niña weather cycle this winter, which bodes very well for Steamboat. The last La Niña took place during the winter of 2007/08, when the Steamboat Ski Area recorded 489 inches of snow at mid-mountain.
The resort is scheduled to open Wednesday, November 24, 2010, with its traditional opening day benefit, Scholarship Day, where proceeds from specially-priced tickets are donated to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Scholarship Fund.
The snow will be here all season, but the incredible early season deals out at the moment won’t be around much longer, and if the early season snow is a great indication of things to come, then guests should act now to take advantage of the best winter vacation packages.
