Big White Wins Best for North America on an Epic Snow Day!!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Big White Wins Best Access out of all North American Resorts! Silver Star comes in 2nd. Silver Star was also second for Best for Families.

Few ski resorts can rival Big White for its ski convenience – virtually all the hotels and apartments in this modern, purpose-built resort are ski-in, ski-out, with the main lifts starting below village level and even the Main Street being dubbed a ski run by the resort.  The terrain suits intermediates best, and the fact that it gets a lot of snow and has a lot of trees for shelter means that it is a good place to learn to ski powder. There’s also a great area called Happy Valley with other activities such as ice skating, snowmobiling, tubing and snowshoeing, served by a gondola that works till late. It’s the snow at Big White

Eating out at Whistler

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

New this year are Euro Snack kiosks located on both mountains, serving Liege Waffles and European hot dogs served in crusty baguettes. In addition, the newly re-opened Raven’s Nest Restaurant will feature fresh Artisan sandwiches and a great selection of soups and salads. Other new menu items to look forward to at Whistler Blackcomb’s existing restaurants include:  Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine at Rendezvous Lodge; New Artisan sandwiches, salads, soups and stews at the Rendezvous and Roundhouse Lodges;  a Latin American inspired menu at Merlin’s Bar at the base of Blackcomb; hot carved-to-order sandwiches at the Horstman Hut; and new paninis and made-to-order salads at Pika’s.

Great snow, great food - a winning combination.

Foot deep in snow at Steamboat

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

It has been a white weekend in Steamboat, as Mother Nature paid a much anticipated visit to Ski Town, U.S.A. with 14.5 inches of snow falling at Thunderhead, the resort’s mid-mountain location at 9,080 feet, in the past 72-hours (Oct 25). Mother Nature showed just how fast she can go from fall to full winter and reminded all of us that it’s never too early to make sure your equipment is waxed up, season passes are in hand and you’re getting into shape for a fantastic season.

Meteorologists are calling for a La Niña weather cycle this winter, which bodes very well for Steamboat.  The last La Niña took place during the winter of 2007/08, when the Steamboat Ski Area recorded 489 inches of snow at mid-mountain.

The resort is scheduled to open Wednesday, November 24, 2010, with its traditional opening day benefit, Scholarship Day, where proceeds from specially-priced tickets are donated to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Scholarship Fund.

The snow will be here all season, but the incredible early season deals out at the moment won’t be around much longer, and if the early season snow is a great indication of things to come, then guests should act now to take advantage of the best winter vacation packages.
