As if you weren’t fired up enough for the season, Breckenridge had 20 inches in the past 24 hours to get you itching for some mountain action. The T-Bar lift on Peak 8 opened 17 Nov and skiers and riders will be able to access North Bowl out to Forget-Me-Not as well as Contest and Horseshoe Bowls. Open terrain includes Duke’s, with access back to the Colorado SuperChair. Northstar and the Rocky Mountain SuperChair open 19 Nov. Nearly 600 acres and chair 6 will be up and running by Saturday 20 Nov.

Keystone are gearing up to open more terrain with eight inches of snowfall in the past 24 hours! The North Peak and Outback open Friday giving Keystone 604 acres with more terrain opening next week. It’s the earliest opening in Keystone history for the Outback, accessible via the Outpost Gondola. Current resort stats boast a 31″ base with more than two feet of snow falling in the last week, and with a Winter Storm Warning until Wednesday morning skiers and riders should look for more terrain openings as the week progresses.

Operations crews at Vail Mountain expanded their opening day plans to seven lifts and 550 acres of terrain. Both Lionshead and Vail Village bases open this Friday 19 Nov and with nearly a foot of new snow over the weekend at mid-mountain and snowmaking conditions prime for lower elevations.

A serious amount of snow blanketed the Rocky Mountains this past week - 13 inches have been reported in Vail, 11 inches in Breckenridge, 8 inches in Beaver Creek and almost 2 feet recorded on Keystone’s North Peak Mountain. Heavenly Mountain was scheduled to begin making snow on Nov 1, but with the early season powder showing up on our front door, they fired up those bad boy snow guns as of Tuesday. The Snow Gods are shining on us this season, we can feel it!

Hi Sarah
Just wanted to say what a wonderful job that you did.We didn’t give you the easiest trip to organize and everything within your control went like clockwork car’s passes and accommodation etc…
We had a real blast already got itchy feet with 2 days off the skis.We will definitely use you for our next trip.
Thank you again - Allan Family.

Hi Lianne,We’re all (Alice, Dave and myself) having a fantastic time over here in Brekenridge. First of all thank you to you and Sarah for all of the great advice that you were able to provide for us with the planning of the trip. The skiing has been fantastic, and now there is more new snow forecast. We all skied together yesterday across 3 of the peaks at Brekenridge, including heading up the Imperial Express which you get off at the elevation of 3,914m above sea level!! Some amazing runs down from here, as well as heading into the Brekenridge back bowls to ski the steeps and let our edges glide us down the slopes.
Our plan now is to head to A-basin tomorrow on the free bus that is provided from Brekenridge township. We are going to be joined by a few of the new friends we have made at the Fireside Inn. It has proved to be a fantastic place with intersting memorabilia of relevance and irrelevnace plastering the walls in the shared areas and themed rooms to stay in.
All in all the Colorado experience has proved to be everything we had hoped that it would be and more. We are all now looking forward to the fresh snowfall and long powder runs on slopes left empty after new years.
Alice, Dave, and Rob
Kiwis in Brekenridge

It’s always great to hear right from the source our very own ”Ski Traveller” clients that are out in resorts experincing things first hand.
Ski Travellers first guest of the season is Dave who headed to Telluride in preparation for opening day the 27th November 2008.He has chosen to head to two fantastic areas in the US Telluride and will then be basing himself in Breckenridge Resort for 28 days!!. Dave will be emailing us from time to time so drop back by the Ski Traveller Blog to check on his adventures in Telluride and Breckenridge.
Here are some comments from Dave so far:
“Just done 1st day skiing. Runs very limited but its fun anyway… Its snowing as I write this. Its bloody high up here.I had one night in Denver ( mile high city ) then to here about 8000,ft, skiing at 10000.ft.I coped with the jet lag .But an extra day at say Denver would have been a good idea for this old fella .Altitude sickness = all day headaches etc …..(I sort of knew but thought i was bomb proof.).”
